Architectural Design, Major Structural Revisions and Interior Design
Located in Los Altos California this Custom Home Remodel project represents much of what RemodelWest accomplishes. This home underwent a major remodel project before our client purchased it. This design and construction relative to the style and fundamentals was deficient adversely affecting the value of the home. After the purchase of the home we took on the challenge to redesign and modify this home. The existing home is reminiscent of a Mediterranean style but many of the elements were not in keeping with the style. With existing white aluminum windows this was the firs thing to go. Our Architectural Design and Construction staff worked closely with the owner to find the best value in a window while also upgrading the product. Sierra Pacific Windows were selected for their numerous exterior color selections, custom size capability and knotty alder interior wood species. A green exterior color was selected to compliment the copper gutters, chimney cap and standing seam copper roof which our metal artisan applied a patina. The Sierra Pacific product also offered a glass bi fold wall option which we used in the Dining Room area to integrate outdoor living into the solutions.
Next up was to create an indoor laundry room and bathroom by adding additional square footage to the home and to remove major structural interior walls necessarily closing up the floor plan. The RemodelWest Architectural and Interior Design staff prepared all the necessary plans, engineering and permitting to construct the new floor area and modify the existing areas.
With the goals to build on and improve the existing style of the home our Silicon Valley Tech Designer worked closely with the RemodelWest Design and construction staff to select all the products and materials for the home. The introduction of reclaimed beam work in the Kitchen Entry and Family Room took the project the right direction. Originally part of the hundreds of miles of trestles across the flats these beams were sourced at TrestleWood.com where one can view each beam, order and ship to the site. Our client enjoyed participating and took it on to power wash and finish the beams himself. The RemodelWest Construction crew then proceeded to hoist the beams into position and install using hand made iron hardware sourced from a small family run blacksmith company TetonIron.com out of Idaho.
Originally constructed with a modern style cabinet completely out of style for the home a solid Cherry wood inset style cabinet was selected from custom cabinet maker Crystal Cabinets. The RemodelWest interior design staff specified a special burnished finish with distressing elements once again achieving the goal to respect the style of the home. A custom designed and built pantry with interior LED lighting and metal mesh doors is a highlight of this kitchen. The reclaimed beams installed to each side of the cooktop hood solidified a cohesive look throughout the home. Not only did we use copper material outside we also brought copper to the interior. Custom made copper countertops, sinks and a range hood sourced from Mexico through Mexicanhomeart.com once again allowed creative solutions and integration of the interior design. Topping off this very specific theme are handmade Mexican tiles sourced at Tierra y Fuego for the Backsplash, Entry Way arch, Laundry and Bathroom with special copper accents.
Overall this project was very intensive requiring Architectural Design, major structural changes and Interior Design all by the RemodelWest staff.
We’ve been very pleased with Remodel West. Unlike other builders, they’re there when they say they’ll be. All of there sub-contractors are respectful & work to the schedule. They expect high quality work and will redo things that don’t look right without a fuss. We’ve used them for two home remodels & always recommend them.
