Japanese Contemporary - Featured in Architecture & Design Magazine
This contemporary style kitchen has heavy Asian influences with its use of vertical grain Douglas fir. The horizontal and vertical window elements introduce natural light while blocking an uninteresting view. A custom-resined shoji style cabinet in the kitchen coordinates with other shoji details, maintaining continuity.
The Kitchen is open to the adjacent family room. The custom shoji screen panels conceal unique horizontal window detail. Recessed vaulted ceiling detail brings in more natural light while introducing a more contemporary element for California style desires.
The family room has an asymmetrical design, which is common in Japanese architecture. The Cabinet cancels the audio video components. To the right of the flatscreen TV is a vertical window, which introduces a “peek-a-boo view of the back yard. The master bath features a deep Japanese style soaking tub. Material choices were intended to provide a soothing experience while bathing.
The powder room, tucked around the corner from the kitchen, provides a new experience from the public area of the home. Slate tiles and a chiseled granite vessel style sink bring warmth and Asian influence to this contemporary California Home.
