Remodel West Project Wins at 2013 NKBA Design Competition!

Congratulations to Sarah Spiroff and Kirk Goodere! RemodelWest took home 2nd place at the 2013 NKBA Design Competition Awards Gala last week. The layout and materials of this bathroom remodel caught the attention of the judges! As part of a larger home addition project, RemodelWest designed and built this family’s hall bathroom with a few things in mind. Home Addition With Bathroom San Jose

Home Addition Project in San Jose

This home addition/bathroom remodel project was the second round of remodeling for this San Jose family. Just a few years after completing their kitchen remodel with the Remodel West team, they were prepared to undergo a big change to their exisiting home in San Jose. The initial goals for this project left a lot room for the design team at RemodelWest to be creative with the transformation. The homeowner’s requirements were to complete a bathroom remodel, possible expansion to the front of the home in order to convert it to a Master Suite and improvement to the front elevation of the home by addressing the entry. RemodelWest designed and built an addition to the front of this home and updated the front of this…

Introduction to Cork Flooring by Remodel West

RemodelWest has been designing and remodeling homes since 1992. Just recently we have noticed a trend in using cork material as a flooring solution. We thought we would take the opportunity to share a few quick facts about Cork.

  • Cork is a 100% natural flooring options. The bark of cork oak trees is harvested with zero negative impact on the environment and grows back naturally in 9-12 years.
  • Have allergies? No problem! Natural substances found in cork resist the growth of mold, mildew and bacteria.
  • Cork flooring is one of the best choices when thinking about the acoustics in the room. It has the best natural sound insulation and actually absorbs sound reducing noise.
  • Cork is naturally fire resistant.

Remodel West uses various tools to display finished projets through the internet. Perhaps one of the more facisnating libraries belongs to our Flickr site. This site provides the opportunity to not only see the finished project photos but also to see what the project looked like before and as our construction team was in progress.

Here is an example from one of our bathroom remodel projects:

Master Suite Addition Bathroom Remodel Los Altos

Two Bathrooms & Master Suite Addition Los Gatos

RemodelWest completed this Los Gatos project in April. Homeowners’ goals were to add on to the back of the house to make more room for a master suite, and completely remodel the master and hall bathrooms.

The Hall Bathroom was designed with a cool, “beachy” feel in mind. A white field tile with a light turquoise, iridescent decorative tile was used in the shower/tub area. Wainscot paneling and a homeowner selected paint color was used on the walls. This room was considered “the kids bath” for this family of four. Matching pedestal sinks and vanity cabinets were installed along with a towel rack that doubled as a towel warmer.

Included in the project was an addition to the back of

When designing your dream home, it can seem overwhelming to create a picture in your mind of all the possibilities and what they will look like.

RemodelWest uses several tools to help homeowners get a grasp on the possibilities that best fit their needs and wants. In particular, www.houzz.com, has been a valuable resource for both homeowners and designers to communicate their wishes and expectations for the outcome of their remodel project.

Just last month, RemodelWest’s work was hand picked by the writers of Houzz for a featured Ideabook.

Los Gatos Bathroom Remodel

Two Bathroom Remodels in Los Gatos

RemodelWest recently completed this two bathroom remodeling project up in the hills between Saratoga and Los Gatos. With a beautiful view, winding rode up to the driveway and a recently updated outdoor entertainment area, these homeowners were in desperate need of a facelift for their two bathrooms.
The hall bathroom was primarily used for guests and also had access to the outdoor pool area. The layout didn’t need much of a change; the materials would be the major adjustment in this bathroom. The original design consisted of tiled walls closing in the shower area. Designer Sarah Spiroff planned for a glass shower enclosure to really open up the space and a bench seat for added comfort.
